# Emporix Custom Build vs. Laioutr: Which Frontend Fits?

If you use Emporix, you have several frontend options. Unlike Shopify (Hydrogen) or commercetools (Frontastic), there's no official Emporix frontend product. The most common serious comparison question is therefore: **custom build** in Next.js or Nuxt, or a **Frontend Management Platform** like Laioutr.
Both work with Emporix. Both support Emporix B2B features. But they're built for different team setups, and that's why the decision is less a tech question than a strategy question.
This post compares the two along six dimensions.
## What custom build is and what it is not
Custom build means: setting up a dedicated frontend project, typically with Next.js (React) or Nuxt (Vue), that talks to the Emporix API. The team builds components from scratch, handles state management, integrates third-party systems, deploys themselves, builds B2B workflows.
Custom build is **the tool for mature engineering teams** with B2B experience.
## What Laioutr is and what it is not
Laioutr is a **Frontend Management Platform**, a complete platform with visual page builder (Studio), 70+ pre-built ecommerce components including B2B building blocks, themes, app integrations and globally distributed EU hosting.
Laioutr is **a tool for cross-functional teams** that ships B2B standard features out of the box: customer hierarchies, approval workflows, quote-to-cash flows, multi-merchant.

### 1. Who can actually use it?
Custom build requires React or Vue knowledge plus Emporix API understanding. Marketing teams are out. Laioutr targets marketing and design teams just as much as engineering.

Custom build greenfield from zero to live takes six to twelve months, because B2B workflows are extensive and all components are built in-house. With Laioutr and a theme, a first storefront ships in weeks, with B2B components from day one.

### Custom build is the right pick when …
- You have a dedicated React or Vue team with B2B composable experience
- You need highly specific B2B workflows (industrial configurators, branch-specific approval flows)
- You don't plan to scale multi-brand or multi-merchant
- Frontend engineering is your strategic core competency
### Laioutr is the right pick when …

- You need weeks instead of months to go-live

## When does it make sense to switch?
We typically see the move when the engineering team that built the custom solution thins out, or when multi-merchant or multi-brand strategies become concrete.
## Bottom line: tooling follows team setup
If you have the team that builds and maintains custom over years, take custom build. If you don't, you'll be more predictable on an FMP.
