Headless for Shopify separates the frontend, everything your customers see, from the Shopify backend with its products, checkout, and orders. The frontend is connected via the Shopify Storefront API and can be designed freely, with no theme limits and full control over performance.
Shopify keeps doing what Shopify does best: product data, checkout, payments, orders, taxes. You keep using your existing admin interface, unchanged.
Instead of Shopify themes and Liquid templates, you build your storefront with Laioutr Studio, visually, component-based, with code access for developers.
No data duplication, no sync conflicts, no outdated prices. Laioutr talks directly to Shopify's Storefront and Admin APIs.
Classic Shopify themes are quick to set up, but eventually become the bottleneck: rigid layouts, slow time-to-market, complicated A/B testing. Pure Hydrogen setups require a dedicated React team. Laioutr closes the gap.
Headless works on any Shopify plan, Basic, Shopify, Advanced, or Plus. You save yourself the Plus license, as long as you don't need specific Plus features.
Unlike traditional page builders, products, inventory, and prices are never copied or mirrored. Shopify stays the single source of truth.
Performance isn't something you optimize after the fact — it's built into the component stack. Core Web Vitals out of the box.
Marketing builds landing pages on its own. Developers extend components or build new ones. Both work on the same platform, without blocking each other.
One platform for multiple brands, multiple countries, multiple languages, with localized layouts, currencies, and product data. Scale internationally without spinning up a new frontend project in every market.
Accessibility, GDPR, and the German Accessibility Reinforcement Act (BFSG) are built into the component standard. EU server location, German-language support, EU standard contract.
Laioutr is built for storefronts that change all the time — from the seasonal landing page to the fully headless storefront.
Black Friday, sales, product launch — build as many campaign pages as you want, without landing in the dev backlog.
One Shopify backend, many storefronts. Languages, currencies, layouts, and product assortments can all be controlled per market.
Build PDPs that fit the product, not the theme. With bundles, configurators, reviews, AR previews.
Editorial content and product listings on one platform, one URL structure, one level of performance.
Custom pricing logic, customer-group-specific assortments, restricted visibility — and still Shopify in the backend.
Layout variants, hero tests, product-sorting experiments — all within Studio, with no code deploy.
Hydrogen is Shopify's React framework for headless stores, and it's very powerful if you have a well-oiled React team that loves building from scratch. Laioutr is a complete Frontend Management Platform with a visual builder, a component library, and integrated hosting. If you want to go live fast and work with cross-functional teams, you'll be more productive with Laioutr. And if you want to avoid Shopify lock-in, even more so.

All data is based on publicly available information, insights from sales conversations with DACH e-commerce brands, and our own platform tests. As of April 2026. Shopify's features may have evolved since.
You have a dedicated React team with GraphQL experience, you're building exactly one Shopify storefront, you want to code every design decision yourself, and platform lock-in is fine with you.
You want to go live fast, you want marketing to build pages on its own, you want to serve several brands or markets down the line, and you don't want a backend switch to cost you a whole new frontend.
Product launch pages, home pages, product detail pages, product list pages, sales pages, blogs, content pages, and more.
