JTL-Shop + Composable Frontend: Decouple the Backend

JTL-Wawi is the operational backbone for tens of thousands of DACH merchants - and for good reason. Inventory management, warehouse operations, and marketplace connectivity (Amazon, eBay, Kaufland, Otto) in a single environment: that is a real competitive advantage. The problem is not in the backend. It is in the frontend.

Every JTL-Shop minor release - from 5.2 to 5.3, from 5.5 to 5.6 - creates a mandatory task for shops running a NOVA child template: a template review with your agency partner, plugin compatibility checks, and likely adjustments to custom overrides. What Is the Real Problem?

JTL-Shop 5 is a monolithic system. The NOVA template stack runs on Bootstrap with a Smarty-like templating engine. That was an acceptable standard in 2019. In 2026 it is a performance ceiling and a maintenance obligation that repeats with every release.

DACH merchants know this pattern from the Shopware 5 era: the backend runs fine, but the frontend is tethered to the backend vendor's release cycle.
