Trinkkost: from WooCommerce to a Shopify-backed storefront, built in under two weeks

The Challenge

Trinkkost sells in a category where the buying decision is made on the page. Someone trying a meal-replacement drink for the first time compares nutritional values, price per serving and flavors, and decides in that same session or not at all. The frontend is not decoration here, it is where the revenue is made.

The previous setup was WordPress with WooCommerce, built with a page builder. Every change to a product presentation, an offer or a landing page meant working in templates and plugins. That costs time in exactly the place where Trinkkost wanted to test quickly, and it costs load time, because the weight of the page follows from the builder and its extensions.

So the task was not to replace a commerce system. It was to get a frontend that is built for conversion and serves fast, and to get it soon. Soon meaning weeks, not quarters.

The Solution

Shopify runs the commerce backend: catalog, pricing, checkout, orders. Laioutr sits in front of it as the frontend layer and carries the storefront.

The storefront is composed from components rather than theme templates. Product presentation, landing pages and offer pages are built in the editor, so whoever works on the wording, the order of the arguments or the call to action works on the page itself. That is the difference that turns conversion work from a developer ticket into an editorial task.

All of it was built in under two weeks, alongside the running shop. The existing storefront stays online until the new one goes live, which makes the switch a single step instead of a migration phase.

"We wanted a frontend built for conversion that serves fast, and we did not want to wait a quarter for it. The storefront on Shopify stood in under two weeks, without touching the backend. Page changes we now make ourselves, instead of building them in templates."

Why it worked

Two weeks changes the kind of decision this is. A frontend rebuild that takes a quarter becomes a program, with budget, sign-offs and a standstill. One that stands in two weeks is a normal measure.

Because the commerce backend stays Shopify, the frontend change was decoupled from the backend. Catalog, checkout and order logic did not have to be touched, and the layer where load time and conversion are decided could be rebuilt on its own.

And it stays that way. The next offer page, the next test on a product presentation, the next campaign are built in the same editor. The second change does not cost more effort than the first.
