Salesforce and Contentful: The Close Window Is Open

Quick signal: Salesforce's acquisition of Contentful was signed on June 1, 2026. The close is expected in Salesforce's third fiscal quarter of FY27, the August to October window. That window is now open.

For Contentful merchants, this isn't a reason to act rashly. It's a good moment to answer one question: who operates your frontend layer, regardless of who owns the CMS next?

What to watch around the close:

• Roadmap signals. Track which Contentful capabilities get folded into the Salesforce world and which stay standalone. That determines how much room to move your setup keeps.
• Frontend coupling. A CMS delivers content. It does not operate your frontend. The cleaner that separation is today, the more calmly your stack rides out any backend consolidation.
• Reversibility. Keep architecture decisions open: clear APIs, clean content models, and a frontend layer that keeps the backend swappable.

The core holds: Composable separates the systems. But someone still has to operate your frontend, across brands and markets. That operated frontend layer is a Frontend Management Platform (FMP): it sits on top of the Composable stack, keeps frontend quality constant, and makes you independent of which backend happens to change hands.
