These structured names help users immediately understand what they're looking at and enable easy sorting and filtering. When consuming systems retrieve assets programmatically, they can parse these names to understand asset characteristics.

Document your naming conventions in a centralized location. Make naming validation part of your DAM workflow so that assets uploaded without following conventions are rejected or flagged for correction.

Best Practice 5: Version Control Everything

In composable commerce, assets change frequently. Product photography gets retouched. Marketing videos get re-edited. PDFs get updated with new regulatory information. Without version control, teams spend enormous time asking: "Wait, which version should I be using?"

Implement automated version tracking in your DAM system. Every time an asset is updated, the system should:

  • Preserve the previous version
