What is Commercetools?

Commercetools is an API-first commerce platform built on a microservices architecture, offering product catalogue, cart, checkout, pricing, and promotions as independent services consumed via GraphQL and REST APIs. It follows the MACH architecture principles and is used by enterprise retailers and brands that require a flexible, scalable commerce backend decoupled from the frontend layer.

How it works

Commercetools exposes its commerce logic through APIs that a composable frontend consumes to render storefronts. Laioutr offers a dedicated Headless Frontend for commercetools, which maps the commercetools product, cart, and order APIs to the Laioutr component model on the Composable Headless Frontend. The Composable Digital Experience Platform layer sits above this, adding editorial content, personalisation, and page composition managed by marketing teams without requiring backend changes on the commercetools side.

Commercetools with Laioutr

Commercetools is planned for the Laioutr App Store. Once available, the Laioutr connector will complement the existing Headless Frontend for commercetools documentation, providing a ready-made integration path for teams already running commercetools who want to adopt the Composable Digital Experience Platform for the frontend and editorial layer.
