Contentful

What is Contentful?

Contentful is a headless content management system (CMS) that stores structured content independently of any frontend presentation layer. It organises content into configurable content types with defined field schemas, and delivers that content via REST and GraphQL APIs. Contentful is used by teams managing content across multiple channels including web, mobile apps, digital signage, and voice interfaces.

How it works

Content editors work in the Contentful web app, creating and publishing entries that conform to defined content models. Each entry is versioned and can be scheduled for publication. The Content Delivery API serves published entries to frontend consumers; the Content Preview API serves draft entries for preview workflows. The GraphQL API allows clients to query exactly the fields they need, reducing over-fetching. Contentful supports rich text through its structured document format and handles asset management for images, videos, and documents.

Contentful with Laioutr

Integration of Contentful with Laioutr is planned. When available, Laioutr's frontend layer will consume Contentful content models via the GraphQL API and render them within composable page layouts, giving editorial teams visual control over content placement without frontend engineering work for each change.

The planned connection pairs Contentful's structured content delivery with Laioutr's Composable Visual Page Builder, allowing editors to arrange Contentful-sourced content blocks visually. The Content Management product handles multi-locale synchronization and brand-voice enforcement across Contentful entries, and the Composable Digital Experience Platform provides the orchestration layer connecting Contentful with commerce backends and other data sources in a unified experience.
