Enonic

What is Enonic?

Enonic is an open-source content management and application development platform in the CMS category. It combines a headless content API with a built-in web application framework and a JavaScript-based template engine, giving development teams a single platform for building both the content layer and the server-side rendering logic without separate runtimes.

How it works

Enonic stores content in a graph-based content repository with a flexible schema definition layer. Developers build applications using its JavaScript SDK, which runs server-side inside the Enonic runtime. Content editors work in a browser-based Content Studio with page composition, component insertion, and live preview. The headless API delivers content as JSON for external consumers.

Enonic with Laioutr

Enonic is planned for the Laioutr App Store. Once available, it will let teams use Enonic's headless content API as a content source for Laioutr's Composable Visual Page Builder, so editors can compose pages visually while content versioning and approval remain in Enonic's structured workflow. Organizations migrating toward a Composable Digital Experience Platform architecture can use Enonic as the Content Management backend while Laioutr handles frontend delivery, performance, and presentation logic.
