Payload

What is Payload?

Payload is an open-source headless CMS built with TypeScript that gives development teams full control over their content schema, access control, and API shape. It runs self-hosted or in the cloud and exposes both REST and GraphQL endpoints out of the box. Payload is planned for the Laioutr App Store as a CMS integration for teams that want a code-first content backend.

How it works

Payload defines content structure through TypeScript config files rather than a GUI, which means schema changes live in version control alongside application code. Collections, globals, and field types are composed programmatically. Once available, it will connect to the Composable Visual Page Builder so that editors can assemble pages using content fetched directly from Payload collections, without an intermediate data-mapping layer.

Payload with Laioutr

Within Laioutr, Payload slots into the Content Management surface of the Composable Digital Experience Platform, acting as the structured data source for the visual layer. Teams that already manage editorial workflows through Payload can surface that content in Laioutr's editor without duplicating data models, keeping the separation between content authoring and frontend composition intact.
