Sulu

What is Sulu?

Sulu is an open-source PHP content management system built on the Symfony framework. It is designed for structured content modelling with a flexible page, block, and media management architecture. Sulu supports multi-site deployments, fine-grained role-based access control, and content versioning. Development teams working within PHP ecosystems use it as the authoring and content delivery backend for web applications that require clean content APIs alongside a capable editorial interface.

How it works

Sulu organises content through a page tree with configurable template types that define which content blocks are available per page. Block-based content entry lets editors compose pages from predefined component definitions without needing developer involvement for layout changes within defined templates. A REST and GraphQL API delivers content to decoupled frontends. Media assets are managed in a built-in DAM with folder structures, metadata fields, and format conversion.

Sulu with Laioutr

Sulu is planned for the Laioutr App Store. Once available, it will provide a PHP-native content authoring backend that connects to the Composable Visual Page Builder and the Content Management layer of the Composable Digital Experience Platform. Teams that already run Sulu as their authoring environment can extend content delivery to composable frontends without migrating editorial workflows or rebuilding the content model from scratch.
